VM Work Related Skills VCE Units 3 & 4 Practice Question 6b – High-quality portfolio traits

Q6b VM Work Related Skills High-quality portfolio traits Unit 4 - Area Of Study 1

Mina is applying for a junior trainee position at a small architecture and drafting firm. The job advertisement states that applicants must submit a digital portfolio as a single PDF (maximum 8 pages and 10 MB). The portfolio must include: a brief profile, 3–5 examples of work relevant to drafting/visual communication, and a short reflection for each example (what Mina did and what skills were demonstrated). The advertisement also notes that spelling and grammar will be considered, and that the portfolio will be skim-read on a phone by a supervisor before being reviewed on a desktop by HR.

Mina has drafted a portfolio with these features:

  • Page 1: A full-page photo of Mina’s pet with a quote and the heading “My Journey”.
  • Pages 2–3: Two screenshots of a gaming livestream overlay Mina designed (no captions).
  • Page 4: A school group project poster (Mina did the layout, but the page does not say this).
  • Pages 5–7: Three hand-drawn perspective sketches of a bedroom (photos taken in low light; some edges are hard to see).
  • Page 8: A page titled “References” listing two teachers and one family friend; no contact details.

The draft uses three different fonts, headings are not consistent, and some paragraphs use text-speak (e.g. “kinda”, “heaps”, “gonna”). Mina has also noticed two spelling errors in headings but has not corrected them yet.

Mina can either keep the portfolio as a PDF, or rebuild it as a hybrid portfolio with a shorter PDF that links to an online folder containing extra images and process photos.
