Unit 4 Overview

Portfolios are a practical and tangible way for a person to communicate relevant skills, experiences and capabilities to education providers and future employers. In this unit students will develop and apply their knowledge and skills relating to portfolios, including the features and characteristics of a high-quality physical and/or digital portfolio. The unit culminates in the formal presentation of a completed portfolio in a panel style interview and an evaluation of the end product.

Portfolio development

In this area of study students will explore the purpose of a portfolio and consider the intended audiences and uses of portfolios in different contexts. They will discuss and compare the features and uses of physical and digital portfolios and examine the characteristics of a high-quality portfolio. Students will understand how to prepare a portfolio proposal and how to plan the development of a portfolio. On completion of this unit the student should be able to analyse the limitations and advantages of the features and uses of physical and digital and/or hybrid portfolios as they relate to potential employment in a chosen industry area or application to higher education.
