Sociology VCE Units 3 & 4 Practice Question 1b – Economic/social/political/geographical effects

Q1b Sociology Economic/social/political/geographical effects Unit 4 - AOS 1

A coastal regional town, Seabright, has recently experienced rapid change. A new wind-farm and battery project has created short-term construction jobs and attracted fly-in/fly-out workers. At the same time, rising house prices and an increase in short-stay rentals have made it harder for some long-term residents to remain in the town. The local council has introduced a permit system limiting short-stay rentals, but a state government decision has fast-tracked planning approvals for the energy project. Seabright is geographically isolated (the nearest major city is 2.5 hours away), has limited public transport, and is prone to seasonal flooding that can cut road access for days. Community groups are debating whether Seabright is becoming ‘less of a community’ or simply changing in how belonging is experienced.
