A research study investigated the effectiveness of a new ‘Mindful Art Therapy’ (MAT) program on improving the mental wellbeing of adults experiencing chronic pain. Participants were randomly assigned to either the MAT program or a standard care (SC) control group. Mental wellbeing was measured using a standardized wellbeing questionnaire before and after the 8-week intervention. The initial analysis showed that the MAT group reported a slightly higher average increase in wellbeing scores compared to the SC group; however, this difference was not statistically significant (p > 0.05). Further investigation revealed two participants in the MAT group had significantly lower wellbeing scores post-intervention compared to their baseline scores.
