VM Work Related Skills VCE Units 1 & 2 Practice Question 6b – Strategies to analyse employment information

Q6b VM Work Related Skills Strategies to analyse employment information Unit 1 - Area Of Study 1

You are planning possible pathways after Year 10 and are interested in work that could exist in your local area in the next 3–5 years. You find three different sources about jobs in the Renewable Energy & Electrification sector in Victoria.

Source A (graph from a careers blog; no author named; posted 2 years ago):

Diagram

Source B (state government labour market dashboard; updated 3 months ago):

Occupation group Current vacancies (Victoria) 5-year outlook (Victoria) Notes on data method
Electricians (general) 2,450 Strong growth Uses advertised vacancies from major job boards; duplicates removed
Solar installers and technicians 1,180 Very strong growth Includes apprenticeships and labour hire ads; seasonal adjustment applied
Electrical engineers 620 Moderate growth Uses employer survey plus job ads; may undercount small firms

Source C (promotional page from a private training provider; updated last week):

The page states: “Renewable energy is booming. Our graduates get hired fast.” It lists: “Average starting pay for solar installers: \$80,000” and “Guaranteed job interview with our partner companies.” It includes three short graduate testimonials but no links to external data.

You are considering two options for 2027: starting a school-based apprenticeship as a solar installer/electrician, or aiming for an electrical engineering pathway (VCE then university).
