Comment 1 (Jordan, parent and volunteer coach):
“Banning plastic bottles is common sense. In our under-14s competition last season, volunteers collected eight full bins of plastic bottles after just one Saturday, and most of it ends up as litter anyway. The council’s own waste report says our suburb sends about 12 tonnes of plastic packaging to landfill each year. If we remove bottled drinks at the stadium, we will cut rubbish immediately. Other councils have already done this, and their venues still run fine. Anyone against it is basically choosing convenience over our kids’ future.”
Comment 2 (Casey, small business owner who runs a canteen):
“This ban sounds good on paper, but it punishes local clubs and small businesses. Plastic bottles are the cheapest way for us to stock cold water quickly. If we switch to cans, the wholesale price per drink goes up and families will pay more. The council has not shown any real proof that this will reduce landfill, because people will just bring bottles from home instead. I’ve run this canteen for 11 years and I know what families can afford. The council should stop trying to look ‘green’ online and focus on fixing the broken change rooms first.”
